Make media. Consume media. Interact with it, play with it, change it. Love all over it.

Whether you're a company, a non-profit, an artist, a journalist or just a 21st century person who wants to connect to the the world in new and more meaningful ways, Organic Process is a good way in. We make and curate creative content and we tell stories about worthwhile causes and enterprises. And when we take, we give back.

Take a look below at some of our current projects and happenings.

Shelf2Life Project

We are excited to be following and documenting the development of the Shelf2Life program with the Bibliographical Center for Research in Denver, Colorado.  This is an amazing project that we will be working on throughout 2009.

Pura Vida Fundraiser - Cali Style

In a great example of good vibes spreading, a group of female surfers in Hermosa beach found a copy of the Organic Process - Finding Pura Vida movie on Amazon.com, watched it and were inspired to contribute to the cause. Over the past few months they organized the Pura Vida No Pro Fashion Show Fundraiser which happened in Hermosa Beach, CA on November, 23rd.

Fearless PVNP Media Director, Tim McManus (now with PDA doing full time video business development) took the trip to Cali to participate in the festivities (and of course catch a few waves) and brought back some photos. The event raised several thousand dollars for the Casa De Suenos orphanage in San Jose, CR.

Thanks to everyone who was inspired by the film and took action.

Kulture Klash 3

Kulture Klash 3 from Charleston City Paper on Vimeo.

Kulture Klash 3 was everything I heard it would be and then some. It was great for me to experience it first hand and see my art hanging among other artist's work. Art was bursting at the seams. I was also very nervous about signing up to paint live at the show and approached it very cautiously. After a glass of wine and a beer, I began to paint and all was going well until i got heckled by some skeptics in the crowd. A seemingly conservative elderly woman and middle-aged man appeared to be confused by what it was i was doing. The pair had a proud sarcasm as they shouted things like "Are you an artist?" and "Look at her paint those corn cornels!" I turned around and looked at them and laughed and said "I can't do this! I'm a painter, not a performer!" Ah, the freedom of recognizing who I was in front of complete strangers who could care less was very liberating. I put down my brush and tried to make conversation with them but they were eager to move on to some art they could hopefully recognize. Fortunately, for the interest of the remaining audience,  my friend, Vikki turned it around and got the them to participate by painting in the cornels on the corn cobbs in my painting. The next day when I came to pick up my stuff, the corn cornels were all painted in. My first masterpiece!

What was most exciting though, was to see OPP artist, Ben Timpson really take the show. We are so excited but not at all suprised that Charleston art lovers are captivated by Ben's work. He showed his orginals for the first time and people were crowded and engrossed around his light table all night. Welcome to Charlesto, Ben!

Trying to kick it new school and old school...

We are working on a site redesign to intergrate our foray into local farming and cheese making. We are excited to work with my brother and OPP artist, Baird Hoffmire on an OPP site redesign and Organic Process goat cheese / honey logos for the products.  OPP is about media and art; how it is used, how it effects us.  Participating in local farming and telling stories with art & media from that experience is a great addition to the things we do. Hey, who makes the rules?

FOOD

I've been happily working at Burden Creek Dairy making chevre cheese for them and feeding and milking the goats two mornings a week in exchange for a bucket of milk (12 qts) to make my own cheese. I am now in full production, making and seling my own fresh chevre once a week. You can buy it directly from me or at  Rosebank Farms. Let me know if you have any flavor requests or orders!

Flavors in stock now: Cranberry/Orange/Honey, Lemon/Rosemary, Italian Herb, Pineapple/Walnut, Honey/Almond

MEDIA

I am also loving working and learning about farming and many other useful things from a crew of very diversely talented individuals at Rosebank Farms and making videos for their website. Here are my first 2 videos of Rosebank Farms annual Fall Festival and Floral Arrangement Workshops with Louise Bennett.

GOATS

Below are some of the pretty milk mamas (and a buck, named Lucky Chucky) from Burden Creek Dairy. Ben Timpson and I went out and took so many good pictures that I couldn't decide which ones to post. To see them all, visit our gallery: www.flickr.com/photos/organicprocess

BEN TIMPSON's Inside Nothing: Is Everything

From an upcoming biography on Ben and his art process:

"When classically trained painter Ben Timpson turned his artist's eye from large canvases to tiny bits of the natural world, his work entered a mysterious realm of fanciful, dark beauty. Flowers, insects, blood and bone – the eccentric materials Timpson collects find their way into miniature compositions he assembles into slides in painstaking marathons at his light table. These haunting and whimsical photographs, published for the first time in "End of the Roll: Goodnight 35mm," capture a style that trades traditional notions of painting and collage for an evocative visual alchemy. The result is a gallery of alarmingly original images, and the publishing debut of a remarkable young artist."

(Rough Cut) Inside Nothing from OPP on Vimeo.

POSTED BY MITCHELL: I discovered Ben Timpson's art when I was at BookSurge. I was walking through the production facility one day looking at some of the books we were printing and his book "End of the Roll" literally stopped me in my tracks. He later came and signed books at the BookSurge booth at an American Library Association conference in Chicago. We had dinner and developed a friendship. He is one of the truest and most unique artists I have ever encountered and OPP is proud to be bringing his work to a larger audience.

Ben has recently released his second book titled "Inside Nothing: Is Everything" that at 174 pages shows his more recent works and will include a DVD. Above is Farrah's rough cut of a clip from that video showing the process behind the art. The book is currently only available directly from us so contact us if you are interested in getting a copy.

Ben's work is starting to pop up around Charleston and his first large scale installation/projection project is being set up for this Winter. Please also look for him at Kulture Klash III where his originals will be on view for the first time! The audience will be able to view the projections as well as the original slide under a 1940's slide viewer in 3-D (you can see it in the video). Interacting with Ben's media is a altering experience and we encourage everyone to take the plunge.

SC Burned children's Fund

We finished the cause-marketing documentary short for SC Burned Children's Fund and Camp Can Do. It was great working with Jill Evans & Betsy McMillan from MUSC's Children's Burn Hospital! Hope the promo for Camp Can Do & the short cause-doc is put to good use. Thanks also to Dan Conover who worked the camera on the opening interviews with the teenagers. Thanks most of all to the children who were so very sweet & open.

Costa Rica and Charleston International Film Festival Premiere for Pura Vida!

Footprints Journal: Finding Pura Vida Premieres in Jaco, Costa Rica

Host: PVNP and Los Amigos
Start Time: Friday, September 26 at 9:00pm
End Time: Saturday, September 27 at 12:00am
Where: Los Amigos Restaraunt

CHARELSTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESITIVAL PREMIERE and AFTER PARTY

many thanks to everyone who came out to support the Pura Vida Media project at the Charleston International Film Festival this past weekend. We had to convince the festival organizers to sell 20 standing room only tickets and we still turned away 20-30 people. It was bedlam. And the film was very well received artistically which was very important to us.

Also thanks to the 150 or so folks who helped us raise over $3000 at the after party fundraiser. We shipped several thousand dollars of media to Steve Sanchez in Arizona for a film premiere and media fundraiser there and there will also be one in Costa Rica in September. All proceeds benefitting the orphanage.

Here are some pics below from the event. Thanks to Chuck Heilig for his fantastic camera and post-production work, Fuzzco, Colleen Terrell and all the sponsors for making this a great project. And of course Tim McManus without whom this would have definitely never happened.

Baird Hoffmire, winner of the super sweet Dewey Weber longboard donated by McKevlins Surf Shop (and my brother in law who lives in Atlanta far from the waves. So we are getting to keep this bad boy at our house!)

Scene from the very packed after-after party at the Trusted Palate. Cary Ann Hearst and Micheal Trent are as good as old soulful country blues gets. For sure. Thanks to Beth and Ian at the Trusted Palate.

More pics coming soon!
