Post Katrina Portrait Project

pkp coverThe Post-Katrina Portrait Project was created by Francesco di Santis, whose story “The Embedded Artist” is told in Falling Together in New Orleans Vignette 2, The Art of Falling Together.

Franceseco, as a Common Ground Collective volunteer, sketched more than 2,000 portraits in the days and weeks following Hurricane Katrina. Survivors and volunteers then wrote their experiences on these portraits in their own handwriting. The result is a compelling piece of primary-source material about the collective experience of the disaster.

A one-of-a-kind artistic, historic and journalistic effort, this book presents more than 400 of these portraits in a first-edition, high-quality hardcover with dust jacket.
